Mr Arjun Shankar MD, FRCS
Mr Shankar is Medical Director at The Lister Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK. He sees private patients at several of HCA UK’s London hospitals, including The Princess Grace Hospital, The Lister Hospital, The Harley Street Clinic, The Wellington Hospital and HCA UK at University College Hospital.
Mr Shankar’s interests include managing benign HPB conditions, particularly acute and chronic pancreatitis, complex gallstone-related conditions, emergency surgery and duodenal polyposis.
His NHS work is based at University College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital, where he leads the Abdominal Sarcoma Unit, part of the London Sarcoma Service, and one of the busiest units in Europe. It offers the most advanced surgical techniques found anywhere in the world, with exceptional outcomes.
He also runs The Lister Hospital’s Abdominal Wall Reconstruction Unit, offering a full range of both open and laparoscopic techniques. He has a particular interest in dealing with complex recurrences and complications.
Mr Shankar trained at University College Hospital Medical School and qualified in 1990. His surgical training was in London, primarily at The Middlesex, University College and Hammersmith Hospitals. He was later awarded an MD for his research into the Development of Colorectal Liver Metastases.
He was previously Divisional Clinical Director of Gastrointestinal Services at University College London Hospitals before moving into hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery in 2010.
